Women's Rugby: Cadets JV squad caps Chris Munn 7s with victory over New England College

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Competing on home turf at Sabine Field, the Norwich University women's rugby team's JV squad took part in the annual Chris Munn Rugby 7s Tournament on Saturday, closing the day on a high note with a 22-15 victory over New England College in the Pool B Third vs. Pool A Third matchup.

Facing a competitive six-team field that included Middlebury College, Vermont State University Castleton, Saint Michael's College, SUNY Plattsburgh, and New England College, the Cadets gained valuable experience against a mix of regional opponents throughout the day.

Norwich opened tournament play against Middlebury, falling 20-5 despite an early effort from Kyleigh Beeby (Oklahoma City, Okla.), who accounted for the Cadets' lone try in the contest.

The Cadets returned to action against VTSU Castleton, where Addisyn Herdic (Canterbury, Conn.) and Beeby each found the try zone in a 22-10 setback.

Norwich closed the day with its strongest performance, defeating new England College, 22-15, behind a breakout effort from Mallory Glover (Trophy Club, Texas).  Glover powered the offense with four tries, while Herdic added a conversion to help secure the victory in Norwich's final matchup of the day.

Middlebury claimed the tournament title with a 36-10 win over VTSU Castleton in the championship match.

The Chris Munn Rugby 7s Tournament once again brought together a strong collection of programs from across New England and the Northeast, providing Norwich's developing squad with meaningful in-game experience and opportunities to build cohesion in a competitive setting.

Norwich will return to action with a busy weekend ahead. A mixed Varsity and JV squad will travel to Brunswick, Maine on Saturday, Apr. 11 to compete in the DIII Northern Invitational Championship (NIRA), hosted by Bowdoin College.  The Cadets are scheduled to face the University of New England at 11:20 a.m. and Northeastern University at 12:20 p.m.

The Varsity team will then compete on Sunday, Apr. 12 at the Nor'Easter 7s Auto Qualifier, hosted by Springfield College, taking on the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 10:00 a.m. and Marist University at 11:00 a.m.
