Box Score 2 BOSTON – The Norwich University women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchups to Suffolk University and Emmanuel College, 3-0.
The losses drops the Cadets to 13-14 on the year and 5-6 in the GNAC, however Norwich finished sixth in the standings and will advance to the GNAC Tournament.
Seniors outside hitters Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) and Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) both led the offensive attack with 13 kills apiece with Palmer adding 22 digs on the day. Junior Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) came up with 26 total digs on the defensive end of the floor while freshman Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) was credited with 46 assists.
In the opening matchup versus Suffolk, Norwich looked to get ahead early on but struggled to close out the set as Suffolk swept the Cadets by scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-22. Mancini led the team with nine kills with junior Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) recording eight kills in the loss.
The Cadets looked to rebound in the nightcap to host, Emmanuel College but the Saints utilized a strong attack (.207) to sweep Norwich in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-11, and 25-13. Crane recorded 16 assists while Palmer led the team with six kills followed by Alma Turpin (Sterling, Va.), Lyons, and Mancini recording four kills each.
Norwich University will open the GNAC Tournament on Tuesday, November 4th as the Cadets travel to Boston, Mass. for the 7 p.m. match versus third-seed Simmons College.
