Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Norwich University women's volleyball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match for the third straight weekend after the Cadets swept Albertus Magnus in straight sets, but well to Rivier 3-0.
Norwich opened up the day with a 3-0 win by scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 26-24 over Albertus Magnus. Junior Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) led the way with eight kills and a .375 hitting percentage to go along with six digs.
Senior Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) added seven kills and a team-leading 13 assists for the Cadets to help pace the offense. Alma Turpin (Sterling, Va.) and Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) each had 12 digs, while Kristen Brewer (Hopedale, Mass.) and Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) had 11 digs to lead Norwich's defensive efforts.
In the second match, Norwich couldn't keep pace with perennial GNAC powerhouse Rivier, falling by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-17.
Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Baita led the Norwich offense with three kills each. Lyons, Palmer and Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) each had two kills. Baita had seven assists while Ruediger led the team with 11 digs.
Norwich travels to Castleton Wednesday, Oct. 29 for a 6 p.m. match with the Spartans before closing out the GNAC regular season against Suffolk and Emmanuel on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
Norwich (12-12, 5-4 GNAC) sits in sixth place in the league standings after Saturday's results. The Cadets can clinch a GNAC Tournament berth with one victory next weekend.
