Women's Soccer: Lasell tops Norwich on Senior Day

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 10-1 to Lasell College in its 2014 home finale on Saturday afternoon on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.

Norwich (3-11-1, 1-9-1 GNAC) honored its five graduating seniors with a pre-game ceremony celebrating their contributions to the program over the last four seasons.

Senior midfielder Alex Frank (Medford, N.J.) scored midway through the first half with a rocket blast on a free kick from 22 yards out to briefly tie the match at 1-1.

However, Lasell (13-4-0, 11-0-0 GNAC) flexed its muscle as the four-time defending GNAC champions scored nine unanswered goals after that en route to completing a perfect league regular season.

The sister tandem of Bridget and Kayla Lynch each scored two goals to lead the Lasers' high-octane offense on the day. Kayla Lynch put Lasell up 1-0 in the fifth minute with a blast into the top right corner of the net after an initial shot was blocked by the NU defense.

Norwich responded though as Frank scored her third goal of the season by converting a free kick with a hard strike that glanced off Lasell goalkeeper Sarah LeClair's fingers and bounced into the back of the net to knot things up at 1-1 in the 22nd minute.

However, Lasell scored three times in a span of four minutes later in the first half to take a commanding 4-1 lead into halftime. Leah Suto scored on a free kick from 40 yards out in the 29th minute from the left side of the field to put the Lasers up for good.

The Lynch sisters hooked up for the next two Lasell goals with Bridget feeding a crossing pass to Kayla for the third goal in the 31st minute and then Bridget tallying her GNAC-leading 22nd goal in the 33rd minute.

Lasell scored six more times in the second half with Sarah Jones, B. Lynch, Megan Cullen, Tia Cloutier, Taylor Yandow and Caroline Murphy each scoring goals.

Leclair picked up the victory for Lasell, making one save in 34:53 of action before being pulled for Caitlin Greco and Leah Pappalardo to finish the rest of the game. Holly Lutz (Hamburg, N.J.) made nine saves for Norwich before giving way to Amanda Harris (Lakewood, Colo.) for the final 6:32. Harris made one save on two shots on goal.

Norwich will close out the 2014 season on Tuesday, Oct. 28 when it travels to Plattsburgh State for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Cardinals.
