NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Friday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Hannah LeBlanc, Kim Jordan and Sam Peters each scored for Saint Joseph's (7-6-1, 4-2-1 GNAC) in the first half to stake the Monks to a sizable lead that they would never look back from.
LeBlanc scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 11th minute when she banked her team-leading fifth goal of the season. LeBlanc took a pass from Peters and fired a shot toward the far post with her right foot. The ball bounced off the inside of the post and into the back of the net to put Saint Joseph's up 1-0.
The Monks struck again just over four minutes later when Kim Jordan headed home a cross from Megan Ford in the 16th minute to make it 2-0 Saint Joseph's. Ford found Jordan with a perfect cross pass from the right side of the field and Jordan did the rest by fending off a NU defender and heading the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
Saint Joseph's made it 3-0 in the 34th minute when Peters blasted a shot over the head of NU starting goalkeeper Molly Miller (Raymond, Maine) to make it a three-point night for the senior midfielder.
Saint Joseph's outshot Norwich 23-10 and had 10 shots on goal to Norwich's two. Brooke Troup and Marina Cameron combined for the shutout for the Monks. Troup and Cameron each had one save. Miller had four saves for Norwich and was saddled with the loss. Lutz came on and stopped all three shots she faced.
Norwich (2-8-1, 0-6-1 GNAC) will return to action on Monday, Oct. 13 when it hosts Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at 7:00 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
