Women's Hockey: Elmira downs Norwich 3-1

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team dropped its second straight game on Friday night with a 3-1 loss at No. 4-ranked Elmira College at the Murray Athletic Center.

Sophomore Maggie Cross (Wattsburg, Pa.) scored the Cadets' lone goal, while junior goalie Taylor Fairchild (Overland Park, Kan.) made 28 saves in the loss for the Cadets.  

After a scoreless first period, Elmira scored twice in the second period, including a goal with one second left to take a 2-0 lead into the second intermission. Senior forward Tanis Lamoureux scored her sixth goal of the season at the 6:38 mark of the second period off an assist from Ashley Ryan.

Johanna Eidensten scored the Soaring Eagles' second goal off assists from Ella Stewart and Olivia Nystrom.

Cross cut the deficit to 2-1 just over six minutes into the third, but Sydney Fischer put Elmira back up by two at the 9:43 mark of the third off an assist from Ryan and Ella Stewart.

Elmira senior goalie Lisa Marshall made 33 saves for the Soaring Eagles to improve to 6-2-1.

Norwich (9-3-0, 6-0-0 ECAC East) will look to snap its recent skid on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Utica to take on the Pioneers at the Utica Auditorium.
