Box Score 2 POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Norwich University volleyball dropped two matches on Saturday afternoon in the second day of action at the Victory Promotions Invitational, hosted by SUNY Potsdam. In the opener, the Cadets fell 3-0 to No. 23 Clarkson and also dropped a 3-0 decision to SUNY Canton.
Game scores against Clarkson were 25-7, 25-8 and 25-10. Norwich saw two kills apiece from Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.), Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) and Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) in the loss. Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) dished out seven assists. Palmer and Baita each totaled five digs.
Clarkson was led by Adrienne Walker and Brooke Butkovsky, who each totaled nine kills. Victoria Kirkemo added eight kills, while Lani Durio aided the team with 36 assists and eight digs.
Clarkson, who was picked 23rd in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Poll, dominated play throughout the match. The Golden Knights posted a .397 attack percentage on the afternoon while holding the Cadets to just seven kills and a negative attack percentage.
In the second match of the afternoon, SUNY Canton prevailed by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-15. Palmer again paced the Cadets with four kills. Baita and Lyons each posted five digs.
Canton was led by Morgan Bills with 11 kills and Kelsy Cornish with eight. Robyn Carroll recorded 16 digs in the match, while Kiana Archer dished out a game-high 23 assists.
Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 when they open action at home in Andrews Hall. The Cadets will host Green Mountain College at 6:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
