POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Norwich University volleyball team dropped both ends of action on Friday evening in the first day of play at the Victory Promotions Invitational, hosted by SUNY-Potsdam. The Cadets fell 3-0 to the hosts in the opener and fell 3-2 to Southern Vermont College in the nightcap.

Against Potsdam, game scores were the Cadets were 25-10, 25-15, and 25-7.

The Cadets were led by Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) who totaled four kills each. Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) led Norwich defensively with seven digs.

Potsdam saw a game-high 11 kills from Sarah Anderson, while Liza Fields aided the tournament hosts with eight kills. Lauren Manzo dished out 17 assists and Jenna Blujus recorded 15 assists. Potsdam was led defensively by Gabby Arana, who totaled 12 digs.

In the second match of the day, the Cadets fell 3-2 to Southern Vermont in the second meeting between the two schools in a week.

The Mountaineers won the first two games by scores of 25-16 and 26-24. Norwich then evened the score by winning the next two games 25-17 and 25-13.  The Mountaineers prevailed by downing the Cadets 15-10 in the fifth set.

Individual statistics are not yet available for the match against Southern Vermont.

The Cadets return to action tomorrow for day two of the Victory Promotions Invitational. Norwich will take on No. 23 Clarkson at 11:00 am and SUNY Canton at 1:00 p.m.
