Women's Soccer: JWU downs Cadets 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Johnson & Wales on Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at The Scotts Miracle-Gro Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Johnson & Wales (3-4-2, 1-1-1 GNAC) struck early when freshman Emily McClarnon (Wakefield, R.I.) converted a penalty kick at the 5:30 mark.  Junior Alexa Appelman (Marlboro, N.J.) put the Wildcats up 2-0 in the 10th minute when she put in a pass from senior Sam Adams (Denver, Colo.) and junior Nicole Petrone (Branchburg, N.J.). Johnson & Wales dominated play in the first half, holding a 10-0 advantage in shots and took the two goal lead heading into halftime.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 at the 53:04 mark when junior Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, Mass.) headed in a cross from Adams.  Sypek capped off the scoring for the afternoon when she went on a breakaway after a pass from freshman Sydney Deluce (Pittsfield, Mass.) at the 77:45 mark.  The Wildcats then cruised to the 4-0 victory with a 25-1 advantage in shots for the contest.

Sophomores Cassie Collins (Oswego, N.Y.) and Alexa Rose (Lancaster, Pa.) combined for the shutout victory for JWU while senior Allison Hull (South Royalton, Vt.) had 18 stops in the setback for Norwich.

With the victory Johnson & Wales is now 3-4-2 for the season and 1-1-1 in the GNAC while Norwich falls to 0-8 on the season and 0-3-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Monday, September 30th when they travel to Salve Regina for a non-conference contest at 4:00 p.m.

Norwich returns home to host Simmons College on Wednesday night at Sabine Field with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
