Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior goalkeeper Allison Hull (South Royalton, Vt.) made 21 saves for the Norwich University women's soccer team, but it wasn't enough as the Cadets fell 1-0 to Albertus Magnus on Saturday night at Sabine Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Despite getting outshot 34-3, Hull was a stalwart all game long for Norwich (0-4-0, 0-1-0 GNAC) in goal to help keep the Cadets close.
Senior midfielder Shelley Mirmina had a game-high 16 shots to pace Albertus Magnus (4-1-1, 1-0-0 GNAC), including the lone goal of the match when she booted a shot with her left foot past Hull after she came out to challenge the shot.
Senior midfielder Amanda Roke found Mirmina on the left side of the 18-yard box and placed a pass over to Mirmina's feet and she buried the ball for her third goal of the season.
Norwich's best chance of the game came in the fourth minute when freshman forward Kaka McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec) had a chance inside the six-yard box off a corner kick from Liz Chapdelaine (Somerset, Mass.). McComber settled the ball and got a shot off with her left foot but Albertus Magnus sophomore goalkeeper Maria Case gobbled up the shot with her chest.
Albertus Magnus threatened throughout the first half, including Mirmina drilling the cross bar from around the six-yard box. However, Hull and the NU defense stood tall to stave off the Albertus Magnus offense through the first 45 minutes.
The Falcons continued to control the game in the second half and had a flurry of chances from freshman Kaitlyn Fedumenti. Hull made a superb diving save on one of Fedumenti's chances with 13:50 left in the game. She also came up big to rob Meaghan Skidmore by coming off her line to make a leg save with 6:52 to play.
Albertus Magnus had nine corner kicks to Norwich's one.
Norwich returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Middlebury for its first road matchup of the 2013 season.
