Volleyball: Cadets Bested by Plattsburgh, Plymouth State at Cardinal Classic

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—The Norwich University volleyball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at the Best Western Cardinal Classic tournament hosted by Plattsburgh State University on Friday afternoon. The Cadets fell to the hosts 3-0 in match one and 3-0 to Plymouth State University in match two.

With the losses the Cadets drop to 1-7 on the season. Plattsburgh improved to 2-7 with the win, while Plymouth State improved to 2-4.

In the opener, the Cadets fell to Plattsburgh State by scores of 25-17, 25-7, and 25-6. The hosts totaled 38 kills in the match while holding Norwich to just 10. Junior Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded four kills for the Cadets and classmate Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) dished out seven assists.

Rosi Cummings paced the Cardinals with 12 kills, while Maggie Schrantz chipped in with 11 kills and 10 digs. Meghan Clifford and Kristen Marchisatto split setting duties, chipping in with 18 and 14 assists, respectively.

Plattsburgh posted an impressive .347 attack percentage on the match while holding the Cadets to negative attacking.

In the nightcap, Plymouth State posted game scores of 25-11, 25-16, and 25-19 against the Cadets. Palmer again paced the Cadets and totaled seven kills, eight digs and two service aces. Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) contributed six kills, while Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) led the defense with 10 digs. Baita dished out 16 assists for Norwich.

Plymouth State received five kills apiece from Brianna Wojtas and Kaitlyn Tedeschi. Kirsten Perrotta dished out 16 assists for the Panthers, and Cassie Pelton led the defense with 10 digs. The Panthers also recorded 18 blocks on the match.

All three teams will be back in action tomorrow for day two of action at the Best Western Cardinal Classic. Norwich will conclude pool play at 11:30 am against Saint Michael's. Following pool play, the teams will be re-seeded prior to the fourth game.
