Box Score 2 QUINCY, Mass.-- Errors cost the Norwich University baseball team in both games Saturday as the Cadets dropped a doubleheader to homestanding Suffolk at Adams Field in Quincy, Mass.
Norwich dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play after the 6-1 and 9-0 decisions.
Norwich got a solid start in game one from senior Brad Hudson (Eugene, Ore.), who gave Norwich its longest outing of the year. He went five innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits. He added three strikeouts.
Suffolk got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as four Cadet errors in the frame led to the first three Ram runs.
Norwich got nothing going offensively, mustering just three hits in the contest. Senior Sam Philbrook (Rochester, Mass.), freshman Brian Baker (Keene, N.H.) and freshman Mike Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded singles. Doyle's single brought in the Cadets' lone run in the sixth inning.
In Game two, Norwich defensive miscues again doomed starting pitcher Nicholas Gendron (Alstead, N.H.) in the bottom of the second inning. Gendron had been cruising before surrendering a two-out single in the inning before a Cadet error put runners on first and second.
The Rams were able to capitalize on the Cadets' mistakes, scoring six runs with two outs to take a 6-0 lead.
Offensively, the Cadets scattered four hits with singles coming from Brandon Place (Concord, N.H.), Sean Gerich (Chicago, Ill.), Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) and Devin Cilley (Tunbridge, Vt.). Whaley added two stolen bases.
On the mound, Norwich got a scoreless inning from freshman Jacob Muetterties (Boxford, Mass.).
With the wins, Suffolk improves to 17-3 overall. Norwich will travel to Emerson tomorrow for another GNAC doubleheader.
