Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Five different players scored to lead the No. 4/3 Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a 5-0 win against the Bison of Nichols College on Saturday afternoon in ECAC Women's East action at Kreitzberg Arena.
With the win, the Cadets clinch their third-straight regular season title, as they finish first place in the final ECAC Women's East standings.
Norwich (19-3-3, 16-2 ECAC East) held a 1-0 lead after the first period as Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) scored at the 15:21 mark on assists by Meghan Papagno (Wakefield, Mass.) and Tyne Gove (Berwick, Ont.).
The Cadets tacked on three more goals in the second frame, starting with senior Stephanie Invernizzi's (Hingham, Mass.) poke from just outside the crease 9:23 into the period. Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ont.) and Jacqueline Perez (San Gabriel, Calif.) tallied assists on the goal.
Norwich would round out the second period with goals by Emily MacKinnon (Kirkland, Que.) and Nicolette Gosselin (Barre, Vt.) at the 13:44 and 17:36 marks.
MacKinnon collected the feed from Maggie Cross (Wattsburgh, Pa.) and Kayla Parsons (Fairbanks, Alaska), while Gosselin's tally was set up by Parsons and Lucie Manhartova (Prague, Czech Republic).
The Cadets would round out the final period with one more goal, as Anderson collected a pass from Papagno in between the circles and fed the puck to Gove on the wing, who one-touched it past Nichols' goaltender Francesca Palazzo.
Palazzo totaled 25 saves for the Bison (3-19-1, 1-14-1 ECAC East), while Norwich goaltender Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves en route to her second shutout of the season.
Prior to the start of the game, Norwich honored seniors Invernizzi, Perez, Fisk and Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) for their dedication to the Cadets' program. So far, their class has posted a 91-12-10 career record.
The Cadets enter the ECAC Women's East postseason tournament as the top seed and will host No. 8 Plymouth State in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 p.m. The two teams met twice in the regular season with Norwich prevailing in both as they posted a 7-0 win on Nov. 9 and a 6-0 win on Feb. 2.
