Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior forward Tori Charron (Tecumseh, Ontario) had a four-point night with two goals and two assists to lead the No. 3-nationally ranked Norwich University women's ice hockey team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Bowdoin on Saturday night at Kreitzberg Arena in non-conference action.
Norwich junior goalie Taylor Fairchild (Overland Park, Kan.) also stopped all 17 shots she faced to pick up her third shutout of the season and improve to 5-0-0 on the season.
Junior forward Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.), senior forward Emily MacKinnon (Kirkland, Quebec) and sophomore defenseman Madison Gallagher (Kirkland, Quebec) each scored a goal as well as Norwich (8-1-0, 6-0-0 ECAC East) won its eighth straight game.
Charron opened the scoring at the 8:37 mark of the first period off an assist from Marie-Philip Guay (Longueuil, Quebec) to give Norwich the only lead it would need.
The Cadets added three more goals in the second, with the first coming just 23 seconds into the frame by Anderson off assists from Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ontario) and Gallagher.
MacKinnon made it 3-0 just past the midway point of the second period with a rebound goal on the power play after Charron tipped a shot off the crossbar on a feed from Madyson Moore (Dubuque, Iowa). MacKinnon pounced on the loose rebound to slide it past Bowdoin goalie Beth Findley.
Charron notched her 12th goal of the season and second of the night with a pretty deke to fake out Findley before sliding it inside the right post on the backhand to make it 4-0 Norwich. Gallagher picked up the assist after pushing the puck forward to Charron to spring her on the breakaway.
Gallagher capped the scoring with a blast from the point that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net to make it 5-0 Norwich. Charron picked up the assist on the goal.
Norwich will look to finish off the first semester with one more victory as it hosts Amherst College at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Kreitzberg Arena.
