Men's Basketball: Cadets Fall to Daniel Webster 62-57 in Ramada Roundball Championship

BIDDEFORD, Maine—The Norwich University men's basketball team fell 62-57 to Daniel Webster College in the championship game of the Ramada Roundball Invitational at the University of New England on Sunday afternoon, despite double-digit scoring by four different members of the Cadets' squad.

With the loss, the Cadets fall to 1-1 on the season, while Daniel Webster improves to 2-0.

Senior Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) led Norwich's scoring efforts with 17 points. Classmate Nickolai Havoutis (Coral Glades, Fla.) tallied 14 point, while junior Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) and freshman Josh Evans (Grafton, Mass.) chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Havoutis had an impressive day on both ends of the court for the Cadets. In addition to his 14 points, he recorded a team-high seven total rebounds, all defensive, and dished out a team-best five assists on the other side of the court.

Tullar and McDonald were both named to the Ramada Roundball Invitational All-Tournament team for their efforts over the two-day tournament. On Saturday, McDonald and Tullar combined for

Daniel Webster saw 17 points and seven rebounds from tournament MVP Eric Webster. He scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to propel the Eagles to the championship title, following a 30-point performance against the University of New England in the first day of tournament action. Teammate Kevin Perez scored 14 points against the Cadets and David Feinstein chipped in with 13.

Daniel Webster held a 32-29 lead at halftime in a game that saw the score tied seven times in addition to 13 lead changes. The Eagles largest lead of the day was 10 points with 12:22 to play in the first half. The Cadets fought back from the early deficit and held their largest lead of four points with 15:17 to play in the second half.

The Cadets shot 32.8 percent (20-61) from the floor and 36 percent (9-25) from three point range. In comparison, Daniel Webster connected on 37.3 percent (22-59) of shots from the floor and 32 percent of three point attempts (8-25).

Norwich will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 20 when it travels for an in-state battle against Johnson State College at 7:00 p.m.
