Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Lasell College won two matches and Norwich University finished with one as the two teams competed in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match along with the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
Lasell downed Norwich 3-0 in the opener and rallied to best St. Joseph 3-2 in the second match of the day. Norwich concluded the tri-match with a 3-0 win against the Blue Jays of St. Joseph.
Following today's action, Lasell evens its record to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in GNAC play. The Cadets improve to 3-13 overall and 2-2 in league matches, while St. Joseph falls to 7-11 overall and 1-3 against league opponents.
Lasell 3, Norwich 0
In the first match of the day, Lasell downed the Cadets by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-20. In the opening set, which saw four lead changes, Lasell was on top early, but Norwich rallied to lead by as many as five points at 10-5. The Lasers slowly built a comeback, but the Cadets never trailed by more than four until Lasell's final four-point push.
The second game saw six ties and three lead changes. The score was close the entire set and the final tie came at 19-19. The Cadets had held the lead since 15-14, but an attack error by Norwich put the lead in the favor of the Lasers at 20-19. Lasell used the opportunity to score five-straight points to close the game. In the final game, Lasell held the lead for most of the game. Norwich managed to knot the score three times, but were unable to capitalize.
Lasell's Abigail Rollins (N. Caldwell, N.J.) totaled a double-double for the Lasers with a match-high 10 kills and 14 digs while also contributing a team-best four service aces. Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) contributed seven kills for the Lasers offense, while Jordan Seid (Rowland Heights, Calif.) paced the defense with 19 digs. Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, R.I.) dished out a match-high 23 assists.
The Cadets were paced by Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) with nine kills. Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) totaled a team-high 15 digs, while Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) totaled 20 assists.
Lasell 3, St. Joseph 2
In the second match of the day, Lasell won the first two sets of the day by scores of 25-18 and 25-10 before St. Joseph answered with two set wins of their own by scores of 25-22 and 25-18 to force a fifth deciding set. After hitting in the negatives in the first two sets, St. Joseph capitalized on 18.6 percent hitting in the third to spark their comeback attempt.
Scott-Rawlins recorded a double-double for the Lasers with 11 kills and 15 digs. Seid recorded a match-high 27 digs for the Lasers, who also saw 25 assists from Nahigian.
The Blue Jays were led by Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) with a double-double of 13 kills and 19 digs. Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) recorded 20 digs for St. Joseph, while Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) dished out 26 assists.

In the final match of the day, Norwich posted set scores of 26-15, 25-18, and 25-20 en route to the 3-0 win.
After controlling the score for most of the first two sets, St. Joseph stayed with the Cadets in the final set and forced two lead changes and five ties. The Blue Jays held the lead at 13-11, but Norwich used a kill by Palmer and three-straight serves by Lyons to reclaim the lead at 15-14. The two teams would trade serves for the next four points, until Tuazon strung together a series of serves to even the score again at 18-18.
That would prove to be the final tie of the game, as the Cadets rattled off five-straight points powered by hard-to-handle serving by Jennette Chartrand (Poestenkill, N.Y.) to take the 24-19 lead. St. Joseph's Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) tallied one final kill on Norwich's game point, but a kill by Lyons sealed the final for Norwich on the next serve.
Lyons totaled 11 kills in the win for Norwich. Palmer aided the offense with eight kills and paced the defense with a team-high 16 digs. Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) and Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) both added seven kills each. Baita posted a double-double of 29 kills and 14 digs on the afternoon.
St. Joseph was led again by Perez, who totaled six kills and 11 digs. Tuazon recorded 15 digs for the Blue Jays, and Williams dished out 19 assists.
Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 when it travels to MCLA for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
