NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior forward Lauren Tamposi scored twice to help lead the Rivier University women's soccer team past Norwich 3-0 on Friday night at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Tamposi used her blazing speed to pot goals in the 35th and 73rd minutes to give Rivier (4-9-1, 3-6-0 GNAC) a lead that it would never look back from. Susan O'Laughlin also added an insurance tally for the Raiders in the 83rd minute to cap the scoring on the night.
Jacquelyn Russo sprung Tamposi for her first goal with a through ball that Tamposi raced down and then deposited into the bottom left corner of the net to put Rivier up 1-0.
Tamposi then used her speed again in the 73rd minute to chase down another through ball from Christina Parent and then chip it over NU freshman goalkeeper Molly Miller (Raymond, Maine) to put the Raiders up 2-0.
O'Laughlin finished off the scoring at the 82:13 mark off an assist from Colby Creteau.
Norwich had a couple of Grade "A" scoring chances with junior striker Carolyn Valentine (Lake Placid, N.Y.) just pushing a shot wide left in the first half and then junior midfielder Alex Frank (Medford, N.J.) launching a blast off the cross bar on a free kick from 35 yards out.
Rivier outshot Norwich 32-10. Miller made 17 saves for Norwich, while Cassandra Brown made four saves for Rivier to pick up the shutout victory.
