Volleyball: Cadets Drop Two at Rivier Tri-Match

NASHUA, N.H.—The Norwich University volleyball team dropped both ends of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double feature on Saturday afternoon at Rivier University. The Cadets fell 3-0 to Johnson & Wales University before falling to the host Raiders, also in straight sets.

Following today's action, the Cadets fall to 4-15 overall and 2-3 in GNAC action.

Game scores against Johnson & Wales were 25-18, 25-10, and 25-18.

The Cadets were led offensively by Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) with eight kills. Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) recorded nine digs for Norwich, while Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) dished out 14 assists. Baita and Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) each recorded a solo block.

Johnson & Wales was led by Alyssa Drapeau with eight kills. Megan Bollerman totaled seven kills, while Marissa Bunnewith aided her team with six kills. Kellen Tensen totaled 17 assists, while Kaitlin Kuntz led the team with 10 digs.

Johnson & Wales converted 26.5 percent of their 98 attack attempts into kills on the afternoon, while the Cadets recorded a negative attack percentage.

In the nightcap, Rivier won in straight sets with game scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-16.

Palmer again led the team with eight kills and Lyons added six. Palmer, Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.), Baita and Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) all totaled four digs apiece. Baita dished out 20 assists, and Jennette Chartrand (Poestenkill, N.Y.) totaled two service aces. Norwich totaled 22 kills as a team and hit at 13.4 percent.

The Raiders used 18 service aces and 35.7 percent hitting to down the Cadets. Emily O'Reilly recorded a match-high seven service aces, followed by Chelsey Hussey with six. Hussey also led the team in kills with seven, while Nicole Peacock contributed six. O'Reilly dished out 29 assists for the Raiders, who saw a team-best 11 digs by Nikki Deluga.

Norwich will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 15 against St. Michael's at 6:00 p.m. in Andrews Hall. The non-conference match will be live streamed on nsnsports.net/norwich.
