Northfield, Vt.—The Norwich University swimming and diving teams fell to visiting Colby College Friday in its first action of 2013.
The men's side dropped the contest to the Mules 154-87, while the Cadet women registered 26 points in a competitive showing.
Norwich received a big performance from junior Patrick Bowden (Cumberland, Maine), who captured both the 100 and 200 yard freestyles, becoming the only Cadet to win multiple events.
In the 1650 yard distance freestyle, sophomore Lance Webster (Windham, Maine) beat the field by almost one full minute to take home the event he has dominated all season. Webster broke the pool record earlier in the year at Colby Sawyer and broke the record at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Invitational.
Junior Stephen Resto (Montgomery, N.Y.) continued his emergence on the diving board, besting the four person field to win at the 1 meter level.
The Norwich women received another strong effort from junior Victoria Sabel (Plainville, Conn.) who finished second in both the 200 and 650 yard freestyles.
The Cadets also went 2-3 in the 50 yard freestyle courtesy of Giovanna Stein (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Jenny Ward (Brewster, N.Y.).
Norwich will be back in action Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host Bates College at 3 p.m.
