NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Six Falcons registered double-figures as the No. 18 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team cruised to a 90-59 victory over the Cadets of Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cadets fall to 5-13 overall and 2-9 in GNAC action, while the win boosts the league-leading Falcons to 17-2 overall and 12-1 in league play.
Norwich was led by Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) with 16 points off the bench and six rebounds. The Cadets also saw eight points from Alex Preckol (Westford, Mass.) and six points from Ian Marquis (Stratton, Vt.).
Albertus opened the contest with a 19-2 run in the first six minutes of play led by a balanced scoring attack by the Falcons. After Ian Marquis hit a layup at the 13:42 mark of the frame, the Falcons went on a 22-4 run to extend their lead to 41-8 with five minutes to go in the half.
The Falcons put the game away early with their runs and went into the break with a 49-17 advantage. Norwich went the first 4:14 of the game without a field goal.
Albertus shot 38.5% from the floor in the first half, including a 9-of-20 clip from behind the arc. Norwich was held to a 22.6% showing and turned the ball over nine times.
The Falcons extended their lead to as much as 46 with 10:12 left in the contest.
Darius Watson finished the game with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Jefferson Lora, James Economopoulos and Sanders each chipped in with 12 points, respectively. Lora added seven rebounds for the Falcons, while Lemar Larsen recorded 10 rebounds.
James Jennings tallied 11 points in 23 minutes of work, while Marc Wilson added 10 points and four boards for the Falcons.
Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, January 29 when it travels to Lasell College for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC tilt.
