Women's Basketball: Curry Nets Career-High 37 Points; Norwich Falls 90-80 to Rivier

Box Score

NASHUA, N.H.—Sophomore guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) netted a career-high 37 points but it was not enough, as the Norwich University women's basketball team fell 90-80 to the Raiders of Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Cadets fall to 8-10 on the season and 2-3 in GNAC play, while the win boosts the Raiders to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in league action.

Curry shot 11-29 from the floor, including 5-6 from three-point range, and 10-11 from the free-throw line. Curry's previous career-high was 36 points, which she achieved against Pine Manor College on January 10, 2012.

In addition to Curry, Norwich's junior Erin Clark (Nwbury, Vt.) contributed a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds.  Junior Kristine Brammer (Littleton, N.H.) snatched a team-high 11 rebounds, while senior Jessalyn Sweeney (Standfordville, N.Y.) added eight points and a team-best four assists.

The Raiders saw four of five starters reach double-figures, powered by Deanna Purcell's 23 points.  Ryan Baker and A.J. Guidi notched nine rebounds each and added 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Erin Sweeney added 12.

The Cadets trailed from early in the game and was behind by as many as 13 in the half, but Curry's 20 points in the first half kept Norwich in the game.  The Raiders held a 49-36 lead at halftime.

The second half continued in similar fashion, as the Raiders were able to extend their advantage to 19 points with 4:55 to play in the game.  The Cadets chopped the Raiders' lead to five points at the 14:50 mark, but the Raiders starting lineup charged forward to bring the lead back to double-digits.

The Cadets were down 90-72 with 33 seconds left on the clock, but Curry hit a three-pointer and three foul shots and Tylita Butler (Lexington Park, Md.) connected on a layup to bring Norwich within 10.

Norwich shot 35.8 percent from the floor on the afternoon, while the Raiders finished with a 40 percent field goal percentage.

The Cadets return to action on Monday, Jan. 21 when they host Suffolk University in GNAC action.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
