Janke recorded an assist on Mulvey's second goal of the night to put the Cadets up 6-1 at the 16:46 mark of the third period to become the 47th player in program history to reach the 100-career-point milestone.
Friday night was milestone night for Norwich (13-1-0, 8-0-0 ECAC East) as junior forward Chris Duszynski (Okotoks, Alberta) tallied his 50th career point with an assist and senior forward Kyle Thomas played in his 100th career game in the Maroon & Gold.
Janke opened the scoring 7:33 into the game when he took a pass from freshman defenseman Erik Lyrvall (Falun, Sweden) at center ice and proceeded to skate through two UMass-Boston defenders before wristing a shot from the right wing that tucked just inside the left goal post to give Norwich a 1-0 lead. Chris Gour (Whitby, Ontario) also recorded an assist.
UMass-Boston (9-3-1, 3-3-1 ECAC East) rallied to tie it at the 9:05 mark of the period when Mark Grinhaus redirected an initial shot from Cameron Harvey from the point that snuck past Norwich junior goalie Chris Czarnota (Wakefield, Mass.) to knot the score at one.
However, the tie was short lived as Mulvey continued to his breakout senior season by tapping home a pass from classmate Tory Allan (Davidson, Sask.) on the doorstep of the goal to put Norwich up 2-1 just 19 seconds later and give the Cadets the lead for good.
Norwich blew the game wide open in the second period with three goals in a 1:55 to establish a dominant 5-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
Sophomore forward Nevin Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.) tipped an initial shot from junior defenseman Zac Fulton (East Thetford, Vt.) past UMass-Boston goalie Zach Andrews to make it 3-1 Norwich at the 11:21 mark.
Just 1:09 later Shane Gorman (Trumbull, Conn.) notched his second goal of the year on a scramble in front of the net off assists from freshman forward Dean Niezgoda (Brewster, Mass.) and Duszynski.
Sophomore defenseman Bryce Currier (Essex Junction, Vt.) capped the three-goal burst 46 seconds later with a laser from the point that beat Andrews over the glove off an assist from senior forward Blake Forkey (Boca Raton, Fla.).
Mulvey capped the scoring late in the third when he took a pass up the boards from Corey Hale (Montreal, Quebec) following a faceoff win from Janke. Mulvey sped down the right wing and circled behind the UMass-Boston cage before coming around and firing a shot that beat Andrews through the five-hole. The goal was Mulvey's 11th of the season and tied him with senior captain Pier-Olivier Cotnoir for the team lead. Cotnoir missed Friday's game after appearing in 95 straight games for Norwich dating back to his freshman season on Jan. 1, 2010.
Czarnota made 15 saves to earn sixth victory of the season and improve to 6-0-0 on the year. Andrews stopped 18 shots in the loss.
Norwich snapped UMass-Boston's eight-game unbeaten streak with the victory and improved to 47-15-1 all-time against the Beacons.
Norwich returns to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. when the Cadets host Babson in another ECAC East contest.
