Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – The Norwich University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Rivier University on Saturday in each team's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season opener.
Freshman Sara Goes (East Providence, R.I.) continued her sensational start to her rookie season in the Maroon & Gold by tallying her team-leading third goal of the season to briefly give Norwich a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute.
However, Rivier's Lauren Tampossi answered less than four minutes later to knot the score back up at one.
Neither side was able to score again, even with the extra 30 minutes of overtime. Norwich (1-2-1, 0-0-1 GNAC) outshot Rivier 28-23, but the Raiders held a slim edge in corner kicks with seven to the Cadets' six.
Junior goalkeeper Allison Hull (South Royalton, Vt.) made 11 saves for Norwich to bring her record to 1-2-1 on the year while Rivier's Cassandra Brown recorded 13 saves for the Raiders.
Saturday's match ended Norwich's four-game road trip to start the season. The Cadets will play their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they host the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) at 3:30 p.m. at Howard Field in another GNAC contest.
