Box Score 2 BENNINGTON, Vt.—The Norwich University volleyball team split a double feature hosted by Southern Vermont on Saturday evening in non-conference action, falling to the hosts by a score of 3-0 before posting a 3-0 win against MCLA in the second match. The Cadets now sit at 1-1 after the first day of the 2012 season.
In the first match of the day, Southern Vermont posted scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-14.
The Cadets were led by Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) and MaryRose Meany (Goshen, N.Y.), who totaled four kills apiece. Palmer and Gabrielle Miller (Grove City, Ohio) both totaled a team-best six digs, while Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) added five digs.
Southern Vermont was led by Jessica Alverez, who totaled a match-high 13 kills. Carrie Baltazar dished out 31 assists, and Vivian Delgado recorded 10 digs for the Mountaineers.
In the nightcap, the Cadets were led to victory by Meany, who posted a team-high seven kills and did not record any errors. Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) also added seven kills, while Palmer and Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) both added six kills. Miller added 12 assists for the Cadets, while Baita totaled 10 digs.
Norwich will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Johnson State College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
