Box Score GORHAM, Maine – The Norwich women's ice hockey team rallied from an early 2-0 hole to score seven of the next eight goals and down the University of Southern Maine 7-3 on Friday night at the USM Ice Arena in ECAC East action.
Freshmen forwards Tyne Gove (Berwick, Ontario) and Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) led the way for the No. 2-ranked Cadets (17-2-1, 14-0-1 ECAC East) with two goals each as NU stretched its ECAC East regular unbeaten streak to 36 straight games with the win.
Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Gove finally got Norwich on the board with her 10th tally of the season off an assist from Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.)
Southern Maine (5-11-4, 5-6-2 ECAC East) regained the two-goal lead again though at the 6:14 mark of the second period with a goal by Katie Paradis.
However, it was all Norwich from there though as the Cadets poured in six straight goals starting with Marie-Philip Guay's (Longueuil, Quebec) second goal of the season just 52 seconds after Paradis' goal.
Anderson tied the game up at three with 45 seconds left to go in the second period off assists from Guay and Kayla Parsons (Fairbanks, Alaska). Parsons had a successful return to the lineup as the sophomore defenseman chipped in a goal and an assist in first game since suffering an injury on Dec. 10 against Bowdoin.
Gove tallied the game-winning goal and gave the Cadets the lead for good a little over five minutes into the third period off assists from DeBus and Guay.
Anderson and Stephanie Invernizzi (Hingham, Mass.) scored goals 42 seconds apart to give Norwich three goals in a span of 1:41 seconds to put the game away for good. Parsons also added an insurance tally to cap the scoring for the game at the 16:33 mark of the third.
Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) made four saves for Norwich to improve to 11-1-0 on the year. Southern Maine's Liz Bergstrom stopped 36 shots to drop to 5-7-4 on the season.
Norwich continues its road trip on Saturday afternoon with another ECAC East matchup against Plymouth State. Puck drop is set for 2:30 p.m. The Cadets beat the Panthers 14-0 earlier this season.
