Potsdam, N.Y.—The Norwich University swimming and diving teams took to the pool for the first time Saturday on the campus of SUNY Potsdam for a dual meet with the Bears of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
The Cadets dropped both men and women's meets but did see a number of solid individual performances, including by sophomore Lance Webster (Windham, Maine), who captured both the 500 and 1000 yard freestyles.
Also on the men's side, Norwich also got victories in the 50 yard butterfly from junior Brandon Kelly (Centreville, Md.), who finished in 25.40 to earn nine points. Junior Patrick Bowden (Cumberland, Maine) also earned nine points for the Cadets by taking home the 200 yard individual medley in 2:13.34.
On the diving board, Stephen Resto (Montgomery, N.Y.) was victorious at 1 meter with a finals score of 168.75.
The Cadets captured both 400 yard freestyle relays with the men's team of Kelly, freshman Travis Marks (Grass Valley, Ca.), senior Andrew Grubbs (York, Pa.) and sophomore Patrick Boyle (Cary, N.C.) finishing in 3:37.64, while the women's team of Victoria Sabel (Plainville, Conn.), Giovanna Stein (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Dana DeMartino (Boyertown, Pa.) and Sarah Patrie (Lewiston, Maine) finished in 4:39.61.
The women also got a victory from Sabel in the 500 yard freestyle and Patrie in the 50 yard butterfly.
Junior Kelsey Baker (Austin, Texas) finished first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 3:18.04.

Men: Potsdam 152, Norwich 140
Women: Potsdam 149, Norwich 70
Both teams will be back in action Nov. 10 when they travel to Colby-Sawyer at 1 p.m.
