Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) scored a game-high 29 points Saturday afternoon as Norwich University defeated Eastern Nazarene College, 76-60, in the championship game of the Comfort Inn of Ashland Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament at Plymouth State University's Foley Gym.
Curry earned the tournament Most Valuable Player Award after averaging 28 points in the two games. She made 14-of-16 from the free throw line Saturday while also draining 3-of-4 from three-point range. Senior Jessalyn Sweeney (Stanfordville, N.Y.), who tossed in 20 points in Friday night's opener, finished with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting in Saturday's final to also earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Junior Kristine Brammer (Littleton, N.H.) chipped in with 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Cadets, while junior Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.) contributed 10 points, eight assists and six boards.
Junior Presley Neufeld topped the Lions with 18 points off the bench, including 4-of-7 from three-point land. Senior Shardae Brown added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds for ENC, which was playing a game for the third day in a row.
The score was close most of the first half, with Norwich up just three points with 6:12 to play. The Cadets outscored the Lions 12-6 in the final six minutes to take a 30-21 lead into the locker room.
Norwich maintained a double-digit margin much of the second half. Eastern Nazarene got the deficit down to seven points on several occasions, the last one at 52-45 with eight minutes remaining, but Norwich went on a 13-3 run to push the lead up to 17 before coasting home the rest of the way.
ENC is back in action Tuesday at Johnson & Wales, while Norwich plays again on Sunday, Nov. 25, at home against Johnson State College.
