HENNIKER, N.H.—The No. 2 Norwich University men's ice hockey team capitalized on a third period five-on-three power play to post a 2-1 win against the Pilgrims of New England College in ECAC East action on Saturday evening at Lee Clement Arena.

With the win, the Cadets remain flawless and improve to 5-0-0 on the season and in ECAC action, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 4-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.

Neither team would break open the 0-0 score in the first period, despite a 15-5 shot advantage for the Cadets.

4:49 into the second frame, the Cadets utilized an extra-man advantage to pepper NEC goaltender Shawn Sirman with shots.  Sirman posted saves on the first two Norwich shots-on-goal, but Travis Janke (Moose Jaw, Sask.) poked the puck through on the third attempt to notch his first goal of the season. Tory Allan (Davidson, Sask.) and Colin Mulvey (Worcester, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

After carrying the lead for over 11 minutes, NEC's Shane Matheson collected the puck behind the Norwich net and passed it to Johan Qvarfordt, who was positioned at the post. Qvarfordt one-touched it low past Norwich goaltender Chris Czarnota (Wakefield, Mass.) to even the score at 1-1.

With a 5-on-3 advantage at the 8:56 mark, the Cadets would take the lead as Alec Thieda (Rochester Hills, Mich.) found Pier-Olivier Cotnoir (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.) at the point, who fired to the upper left corner.

Czarnota registered 22 saves in net for the Cadets, while Sirman totaled 37 saves for the Pilgrims. Norwich posted a 39-23 shot advantage on the day.

The Cadets return to action on Friday, Nov. 23 as they host St. Thomas (Minn.) at 7:00 p.m. in the second game of the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout.
