Colchester, Vt.—The Norwich University men's swimming and diving team captured its second consecutive victory of 2012 Wednesday night at St. Michael's College by a score of 176-122.
The Cadets were once again led by sophomore Lance Webster (Windham, Maine), who took home the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. But Webster was not the only repeat winner of the night for Cadet men as junior Brandon Kelly (Centreville, Md.) won both the 50 and 100-yard butterflies and David Rhoden (Farmington, Conn.) won both his events on the diving board.
Freshman Travis Marks (Grass Valley, Calif.) turned in another strong performance in winning the 50-yard backstroke and being part of the 200-yard medley relay team that won for the third consecutive meet, along with Webster, Kelly and Pat Bowden (Cumberland, Maine).
Bowden also won the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 59:12 and was the only competitor to break the one-minute mark.
On the women's side, the Cadets were bested by a score of 195-63. Junior Victoria Sabel (Plainville, Conn.) finished fourth in both the 200 and 1000-yard freestyles. The Cadets also went 3-4 in the 50-yard backstroke thanks to sophomores Daniella Vitale (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Dana DeMartino (Boyertown, Pa.).
The Cadets high point came in the last women's event of the night when the team of Sabel, Vitale, DeMartino and Giovanna Stein (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:59.85.
Norwich will back in action after the Thanksgiving holiday when the Cadets travel to the Great Northeast Athletic Conferences (GNAC) tournaments on Dec. 1-2 at Simmons College. The men's side will try to defend their title in the GNAC Invitational while the women look to capture the GNAC Championship.
