BURLINGTON, VT. – Norwich University posted a combined 16
men's and women's event victories in a dual against
in-state rival St. Michael's Jan. 24.
The Cadets' men's squad toppled the Purple Knights
for the second time this season, winning by a 175-116 count. St.
Michael's captured the women's dual 145-82.
NU's men's team had four double-event winners.
Senior Mike Zemanek (Voorheesville, N.Y.) took firsts in the
200-yard freestyle (1:51.21) and 100-yard freestyle (50.49), while
sophomore Patrick Bowden (Cumberland, Me.) was a winner in the
50-yard breaststroke (29.9) and 100-yard intermediate (58.33)
events. Fellow sophomore Brandon Kelly (Centreville, Md.) and
freshman Lance Webster (Windham, Me.) also captured two events each
with Kelly winning the 50-yard freestyle (23.52) and 50-yard
butterfly (25.49) events, and Webster placing first in the 500-yard
(5:14.23) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:37.04) races.
The two teams also swept the 200-yard freestyle relays, and the
men captured the 200-yard medley relay. Norwich's individual
event victories for the women's team came from senior Felicia
Jones (Sherburne, N.Y.) in the 100-yard intermediate (1:12.61),
senior Janice Knoop (Cicero, N.Y.) in the 50-yard butterfly
(31.46), and sophomore Victoria Sabel (Plainville, Conn.) in the
500-yard freestyle (6:11.32).
Norwich breaks from competition to prepare for the 2012 New
England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association
Championships. The event begins Feb. 11 and 12 at UMass-Dartmouth
and concludes Feb. 18 and 19 at UVAC in White River Junction,
Vt.
