PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Norwich University produced two pins
against Springfield Technical College and two wins against New
England Wrestling Association No. 6-ranked University of Southern
Maine to spotlight a quadrangular at Johnson and Wales University
Jan. 15.
The Cadets (0-5) dropped decisions to NEWA No. 1-ranked JWU
39-0, USM 37-9, and Springfield Tech 25-24.
Against USM, sophomore 184-pounder Sam Kent (Keene, N.H.) and
sophomore heavyweight Anthony Joyce (Lincoln, R.I.) earned wins
with Kent taking a decision and Joyce receiving a forfeit. Coach
John Hartupee's team narrowly missed a team win against STCC.
Kent, finishing 2-1 on the day, took another decision, while
sophomore 174-pounder Mike Babbin (Plymouth, Mass.) and
sophomore149-pounder Evan Poole (West Milford, N.J.) each won
by fall. Sophomore 197-pounder Frannie Armstrong (Hanover, Mass.)
and freshman 149-pounder Cody Gladstone (Merrimack, N.H.) also
accumulated team points with a decision and forfeit victory.
Springfield Tech managed to rally back with a fall and decision in
the final two matches.
Norwich begins a busy week Wednesday, Jan. 18, when Springfield
College visits Plumley Armory on NU's campus for a 6 p.m.
