Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, VT. – Fueled by a strong effort from senior middle hitter Ivana Batur (Zagreb, Croatia), the Norwich University volleyball squad managed a win over Lasell College to highlight a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match Sept. 24.
Batur riddled the Lasers' front line defense with 18 kills and a .387 attack percentage during the Maroon and Gold's three-game sweep. She also had four solo blocks and three block assists. Fellow senior middle hitter April Byllaardt (Stormville, N.Y.) chipped in 11 kills and three service aces.
Byllaardt tried to guide Coach Amanda Cuiffo's squad in its second match against Emmanuel. However, her 13 kills, one solo block and three block assists couldn't get the Cadets past their guests in a four-game loss. Junior right side hitter Gabrielle Miller (Grove City, Ohio) ended with seven kills, a .467 attack percentage, 30 assists and 12 digs.
Norwich (8-6 overall, 3-2 GNAC) resumes a five-match home stand Saturday, Oct. 1. The Cadets play Pine Manor and Emerson in league play inside Andrews Gymnasium as part of Homecoming 2011 festivities. Match times are 12 p.m. against Pine Manor and 4 p.m. against Emerson.
