Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – In a rematch of last
year's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)
Championship game, the Lasell Lasers once again got the best of the
Norwich women's soccer team, downing the Cadets 3-1 on
Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field.
Jessica Taylor gave Lasell a 1-0 lead less than four minutes
into the match and the Lasers (3-2-0, 3-0-0 GNAC) never looked back
as they scored three goals before Norwich was able to get on the
board with senior forward Nikki
Szczepanski's tally in the 88th
minute.
Although Norwich fell behind early, the Cadets managed to keep
Lasell from striking again until the Lasers scored two goals a
little over two minutes apart late in the second half to take a
commanding 3-0 lead.
Jamie Harris provided the eventual game-winning goal for Lasell
in the 77th minute when she followed up her initial shot
and put home the rebound past Norwich goalkeeper Meghan
Kennedy. Jordynn Frollo added an extra insurance marker
2:05 later off a free kick from 25 yards out.
Szczepanski prevented Lasell goalkeeper Elizabeth Stickley from
recording the clean sheet by scoring her first goal of the season
off a deflection off the cross bar. Stickley made six saves to pick
up the win, while Kennedy stopped eight shots to fall to 1-1 on the
year.
The loss ends Norwich's four-game unbeaten streak to open
the season. The Cadets (3-1-1, 1-1-1 GNAC) were the last remaining
unbeaten team in the GNAC.
Norwich looks to get back on track on Wednesday when the Cadets
travel to Pine Manor to take on the Gators in GNAC action at 4
p.m.
