Women's Hockey: Cadets close first half with 4-1 win over Bowdoin

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior forward Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) had a goal and two assists to lead the Norwich women's ice hockey team to a 4-1 win over Bowdoin on Saturday night in the Cadets' final game of the first semester.

Norwich (10-1-1, 7-0-1 ECAC East) extended its unbeaten streak to 10 straight games with the victory in the first ever meeting between Norwich and Bowdoin on the women's side.

Saturday's game marked the 100th career game for senior defensemen Sarianne Lynn (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Amanda Wilks (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and they each picked up an assist on the night.

After a scoreless first period, senior team captain Melissa Rundlett (Saco, Maine) help light a spark under NU's offense with her sixth goal of the season coming at the 9:10 mark of the second period on the power play. Rundlett drove to the net from the right wing and tipped a shot past Bowdoin goalie Tara Connolly off a pass from Fortier at the point to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead.

The Cadets struck again on the power play late in the period when sophomore forward Renee Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario) tipped an initial shot from Fortier in the high slot over Connolly's glove to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Fortier added the dagger with six seconds left in the period when she beat Connolly for her 13th goal of the season. Fortier finished off the effort after Lortie chipped the puck up to her along the side boards.

Sophomore forward Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ontario) extended the lead to 4-0 just 51 seconds into the third period with her first goal of the season off assists from Stephanie Invernizzi (Hingham, Mass.) and Jackie Perez (San Gabriel, Calif.).

Bowdoin's Emiy Tang ended Norwich sophomore goalie Joanie Plamondon's bid for the shutout at the 14:01 mark of the third period when she beat Plamondon (Pont-Rogue, Quebec) off a scramble in front of the net on a power play. Shelagh Merrill and Stephanie Ludy each recorded assists for the Polar Bears.

Plamondon stopped 15 shots to improve to 4-1-1 on the year, while Connolly made 17 saves for Bowdoin and fell to 1-3-1 on the season. Norwich outshot Bowdoin 21-16 and was 2-for-4 on the power play, while Bowdoin was 1-for-6.
