NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University's men picked up a team dual win, while the women battled to a one-two finish in the 1000-yard freestyle to highlight its meeting against Colby-Sawyer Nov. 12.
The men's 148-101 win over the Chargers was paced by senior Mike Zemanek (Voorheesville, N.Y.) and freshman Lance Webster (Windham, Maine). Zemanek claimed the 200 and 50 freestyle events and was on two winning relays. Webster also won two individual events (1000 freestyle and 200 backstroke) and was on a winning relay. Coach Laura Dunn's squad also received key race wins from junior Andrew Grubbs (York, Pa.) in the 500 freestyle, sophomore John Erdeski (Stamford, Vt.) in the 50 backstroke, sophomore Adam Vaughn (Glendale, Ariz.) in the 50 breaststroke, sophomore Pat Bowden (Cumberland, Maine) in the 200 breaststroke, and sophomore Brandon Kelly (Centreville, Md.) in the 50 flystroke.
In the women's dual, despite a 174-69 loss to CSC, the Maroon and Gold had several top-notch efforts. Among those was freshman Victoria Sabel (Plainville, Conn.) was first in the 1000 freestyle and a close second in the 500 freestyle. Senior Molly Andreo (Bedford, N.H.) was second in the 1000 freestyle, too.
Norwich continues its three-meet home stand to begin the 2011-12 season Wednesday, Nov. 16. St. Michael's College of Vermont visits Goodyear Pool in Plumley Armory for a 4 p.m. start.
NOTES – Dunn's men's squad added four more men's efforts to its "A" cut list for the 2012 NEISDA Championships. … The Cadets' women's team had its first such mark from senior Felicia Jones (Sherburne, N.Y.).
