Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Spurred on by the play of senior middle
hitter Ivana Batur, Norwich University's volleyball team
remained above .500 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play
with a split at Johnson and Wales Oct. 15.
Batur hammered 15 kills and blocked four attack attempts by
Mount Ida's offense to go with 41 digs in a four-game win
over the Mustangs. Fellow senior front-liner April Byllaardt
(Stormville, N.Y.) chipped in 12 kills. Freshman Kassandra Jermyn
(Auburn, Mass.) turned in strong numbers from the setter position
with 29 assists.
NU (11-8, 5-4 GNAC) nearly came away with a key league sweep.
The Cadets led the host Wildcats of JWU two games to one before the
home side rallied back for a five-game win.
Batur finished the match with 21 kills and 19 digs. Junior
Gabrielle Miller (Grove City, Ohio) added 33 assists and 23 digs,
while Byllaardt drilled 14 kills.
Coach Amanda Cuiffo's squad resumes league play with a
busy three-game week next week. Norwich takes on Rivier Tuesday,
Oct. 18, for a 7 p.m. match and then faces St. Joseph's
Colleges of Maine and Connecticut in tri-match action at West
Hartford, Conn., Saturday, Oct. 22.
