HARTFORD, Conn. – The Norwich men's ice hockey team rebounded to salvage a weekend split as the Cadets slipped past Trinity 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Koeppel Community Sports Center in ECAC East/NESCAC Interlock action.
Tory Allan scored the lone goal of the game at the 17:09 mark of the second period and that proved to be the game winning goal as the Cadets maintained their one-point lead over Castleton in the ECAC East standings.
The goal was Allan's second of the season with Greg Eskedjian and Christophe Paquet picking up assists.
The Spartans edged Amherst 3-2 in overtime to keep pace with Norwich and setting up a potential showdown for the top spot in the league on Friday, Feb. 11 at Castleton's Spartan Arena in Rutland.
Freshman goaltender Parker Carroll was brilliant in net for Norwich, turning aside all 22 shots he faced to backstop the Cadets to the win.
He stayed perfect on the season and improved to 4-0-0, while recording his first collegiate shutout as well.
Norwich outshot Trinity 32-22 and took five penalties for 10 minutes to Trinity's four for eight minutes.
After scoring 27 goals in their last four games, the Norwich offense hit a bit of a lull this weekend. The Cadets managed just three total goals, but still earned two points with Saturday's win after falling 5-2 to Wesleyan on Friday night.
Norwich (11-5-1, 9-1-1 ECAC East) returns home to Kreitzberg Arena on Friday to host UMass-Boston at 7 p.m. followed by Babson on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games are ECAC East contests and can be seen live on www.nsnsports.net/norwich.
