Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – The Norwich women's
basketball team extended their winning streak to six games on
Wednesday night, as they defeated the Mustangs, 80-69, at Mount
Ida's Athletic Center.
The Cadets remain unbeaten in the Great Northeast Athletic
Conference, standing at 4-0 and 11-4 overall.
Senior captain Christine Daniels continues to
rise to the challenge of her opponents and leave her mark in the
record book as tonight's game marked her 15th
consecutive double-double of the season.
Daniels was a key factor in the Cadets win over the Mustangs, as
she netted 22 points on the night and, with 23 boards, made nearly
half of the team's rebounds. She also earned four assists and
made four steals in the action.
Daniels is currently 10 away from her 800th career
rebound and will soon be the 16th student-athlete in
conference history to reach that milestone. She is also less than
50 points away from her 1,000th career point.
Senior Laurel McWilliams had another big night
for Norwich, sinking 25 points with a 10-of-15 shooting effort,
4-of-7 from the line and one 3-pointer. Freshman Kristin
Brown chipped in with four assists, shooting 4-of-6 and
netting one 3-pointer for her nine points in the game.
The Cadets led 42-35 at the half. While the Mustangs took a
brief lead four minutes into the game, Norwich quickly regained
control. With 13:29 remaining in the first half, Mount Ida tied the
game at 14-all. A jumper by senior Karissa Doyon
– who netted 11 total points in the game – put the
visiting team back in the lead; one they would retain for the
remainder of the game.
The next GNAC game for the Cadets will be held at home on
Saturday in Andrews Hall where the team will host conference-rival
Emmanuel College at 1 p.m.
