Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Norwich women's ice hockey
team skated to a 1-1 tie with Salve Regina on Saturday night at St.
George's Rink in ECAC East action.
Salve Regina's junior goaltender Rebecca
Simmons made 41 saves to keep the powerful Norwich offense
at bay and helped the Seahawks take the first point from the Cadets
in league play this season.
Norwich (10-3-1, 7-0-1 ECAC East) had its three-game win streak
and perfect league record snapped despite outshooting Salve Regina
42-11.
Sophomore forward Jillayne DeBus scored the
Cadets' lone goal of the game at the 17:32 mark of the first
period on a power play with assists from Kayla
Parsons and Sophie Leclerc.
Kristen Cokely tied the game up at the 4:34
mark of the second period with a power play goal of her own.
Norwich outshot Salve Regina 22-1 in the third period and the
five-minute overtime, but neither side was able to score again.
The Cadets return to action next weekend with a home and home
series against in-state rival St. Michael's. Norwich travels
to South Burlington on Friday for a 7 p.m. faceoff and then returns
home to Kreitzberg Arena on Saturday to host the Purple Knights at
7 p.m.
Saturday's game is the Cadets Skate For The Cure game
where Norwich will be wearing special-edition pink jerseys. Free
admission will be offered and instead fans are asked to donate
money in jars that will be placed at the entrances of the arena to
help fight cancer.
All donations will go to the SD Ireland Cancer Research
Center.
