Henniker, N.H. – Freshmen forwards Chris
Duszynski and Travis Janke each
contributed three points to help Norwich win its third straight
game in a 6-1 rout of New England College on Friday night at the
Lee Clement Ice Arena.
The Norwich offense exploded for four goals in the opening frame
to take control of the game from the opening faceoff. The Cadets
(9-4-1, 7-0-1 ECAC East) didn't surrender a shot to the
Pilgrims until seven minutes were gone in the first period.
Duszynski opened the scoring 5:07 into the period with his sixth
goal of the season. He picked off a breakout pass at the blue line
and skated in from the left wing, brought the puck over to his
forehand and slammed the puck through New England goaltender Aaron
Harvey's five hole to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead.
Senior captain Chad Anderson pushed the lead to
2-0 at the 14:48 mark of the first period with a power play goal
when he roofed the puck over Harvey's left shoulder for his
sixth goal of the season. Blake Forkey and
Chris Gour recorded assists.
Norwich continued to keep the pressure on as Greg
Eskedjian notched his third goal of the season at the
17:24 mark. Travis Janke won a battle along the
boards below the goal line and then fed Eskedjian in the high slot.
Eskedjian took the pass and beat Harvey five hole to increase the
lead to 3-0.
Just 32 seconds later, Duszynski added his second goal of the
game when he pounced on a loose puck sitting in the crease that
Harvey couldn't cover up after an initial shot from Anderson
was blocked.
Norwich dominated the shot total 19-4 after the first
period.
Janke stretched the lead to 5-0 at the 13:17 mark of the second
period when he tucked a wrist shot just underneath the cross bar
from the right faceoff circle with assists coming from Eskedjian
and Kyle Thomas.
Junior Emmond Bell scored his first goal of the
season with just over a minute left in the second period off a
snipe from just inside the left faceoff circle that beat Harvey
blocker side. Duszynski and Janke were credited with the
assists.
Norwich led shots 30-10 after two periods.
NEC (5-7-1, 3-5-0 ECAC East) broke up the shutout at the 12:38
mark of the third period when Johan Qvarfordt beat Norwich
goaltender Alex Dubois blocker side with an assist from Phil Moore
to cut the deficit to 6-1.
Norwich outshot NEC 34-21.
Dubois made 20 saves to pick up his first win since Dec. 31
against Nichols. He improved to 7-4-1 on the year.
The Cadets continue their four-game road trip on
Saturday at Saint Anselm. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
