Women's Soccer: Casey Powers Norwich Past Johnson, 4-2

Box Score

Johnson, Vt. – Sophomore M Brittany Casey scored all four of her team's goals in leading the Norwich University women's soccer team past Johnson State College on Wednesday. The offensive outburst upped Casey's season goal total to six.

Casey opened the scoring in the 34th minute when she ran under a long punt from senior G Nikki Hunsicker, settled it and launched a shot into the back of the net. Hunsicker was credited with an assist on the play.

Johnson State (0-2) answered early in the second half when Ally Bataille scored an unassisted marker at the 56' mark to knot the game at 1-1.

Casey then took over the game, scoring three straight goals to extend Norwich's lead to 4-1. The goals for the natural hat trick came in the 68th, 78th and 84th minute, respectively. Sophomore M Kacey Abbriano assisted on the middle marker.

Jennifer Ferrari was able to pull the Badgers to within two in the 87th minute when she curled the ball into the top left corner, but JSC could not rally beyond that.

Norwich (2-1) outshot the Badgers by a 23-11 margin and held a 10-5 advantage in corners.

Amber McCullock had nine saves for Johnson. Hunsicker registered one stop for the Cadets before giving way to fellow senior Alicia Wright following an injury. Wright also had one save.

NU is next in action when it travels to New Haven, Conn., on Saturday, Sept. 11, to tangle with Albertus Magnus. The conference clash is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
