Casey scored all four of her team's goals in leading the
Norwich University women's soccer team past Johnson State
College on Wednesday. The offensive outburst upped Casey's
season goal total to six.
Casey opened the scoring in the 34th minute when she ran under a
long punt from senior G Nikki Hunsicker, settled it and launched a
shot into the back of the net. Hunsicker was credited with an
assist on the play.
Johnson State (0-2) answered early in the second half when Ally
Bataille scored an unassisted marker at the 56' mark to knot
the game at 1-1.
Casey then took over the game, scoring three straight goals to
extend Norwich's lead to 4-1. The goals for the natural hat
trick came in the 68th, 78th and 84th minute, respectively.
Sophomore M Kacey Abbriano assisted on the middle marker.
Jennifer Ferrari was able to pull the Badgers to within
two in the 87th minute when she curled the ball into the top left
corner, but JSC could not rally beyond that.
Norwich (2-1) outshot the Badgers by a 23-11 margin and held a
10-5 advantage in corners.
Amber McCullock had nine saves for Johnson. Hunsicker registered
one stop for the Cadets before giving way to fellow senior Alicia
Wright following an injury. Wright also had one save.
NU is next in action when it travels to New Haven, Conn., on
Saturday, Sept. 11, to tangle with Albertus Magnus. The conference
clash is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
