Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Norwich University women's
soccer team dropped an overtime contest to Husson University, 2-1,
on Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field in the final game of the
Husson Classic. The Cadets' lone goal was scored by senior F
Nikki Sczczepanski.
The Cadets (1-1) were outshot by the Eagles by a 21-2 margin in
the first half, but managed to hang in the contest. Senior G Alecia
Wright had to make a solid stop for NU in the 22nd minute to keep
the game knotted at 0-0.
Szczepanski got Norwich on the board in the 27th minute when she
placed a cross from sophomore M Brittany Casey into the back of the
net. The goal was Szczepanski's first on the young
season.
Husson (2-1) answered right back, notching a marker of its own
in the 28th minute. Alexandra Laniewski took a feed from Megan
Clement before pushing it past Wright.
Regulation ended with the game still tied at 1-1 after a
scoreless second half.
The Eagles were able to break through in the sixth minute of
overtime when Rebecca Jones scored unassisted.
HU held a 35-7 advantage in shots, and a 6-4 advantage in
corners.
Wright recorded 14 saves for NU while Husson's Rozlyn
Petersen made four stops.
Norwich next travels to Johnson, Vt., where they will tangle
with Johnson State College on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The match is set
to start at 1 p.m.
