Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University
volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-set match to Plymouth
State University, 3-2, before rallying to defeat Plattsburgh State
in straight sets, 3-0, in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon
at Andrews Gym.
In the first game Norwich (2-1) got out to a two set lead on
Plymouth, winning by scores of 25-20 and 25-17.
The Panthers (2-0) came right back winning the third and fourth
set by scores of 25-10 and 25-18, respectively. Plymouth went on to
clinch the fifth and decisive set by a score of 16-14.
Senior Molly Rice had 34 assists, and 11 digs for the
Cadets.
April Byllaardt, Thea Evans and Ivana Batur paced NU in kills
with 12, 11 and nine respectively. Byllaardt also chipped in four
blocks, while Evans had 11 digs.
Brittany Palmer and Jessica Bielski both had three service aces
for home team. Palmer added 11 digs for the match.
In the day's second match the Cadets came out firing
against Plattsburgh State, winning the first three sets by scores
of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-21 to post the 3-0 victory.
Rice had 25 assists, two service aces and eight digs in the
second contest.
Evans notched eight kills, eight digs and two service aces.
Byllaardt had 13 kills for the match, while Palmer pitched in
with 11 digs.
The Cadets now will travel to Colchester, Vt., where they will
take on St. Michael's on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The match is set
to get underway at 7 p.m.
