CASTLETON, Vt. - The Norwich University
volleyball team opened its 2010 campaign with a 3-0 victory over
Castleton State College Wednesday evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium.
The Cadets took the match in straight sets, winning by game scores
of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-19.
Norwich improves to 1-0 on the season while the Spartans fall to
0-1.
Sophomore MaryRose Meany led Norwich offensively with six kills
while senior Thea Evans dished out 10 assists and tallied five
digs. Junior April Byllardt pitched in with six service aces and
seven digs for the Cadets.
Castleton was led by freshman Sarah Wheeler, who posted six
kills, one service ace and a game-high 16 digs. Ashley Kepaa added
six kills and three service aces in the loss for the Spartans.
Norwich will open its home slate on Saturday, Sept. 4, when the
Cadets host Plymouth State and Plattsburgh State at Andrews Hall.
Action is scheduled to get under way at 12 p.m.
