NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University
junior softball player Marley Balasco was tabbed the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) “Player of the
Week” on Tuesday after helping the Cadets to a perfect 6-0
mark last week.
Balasco led Norwich with a .667 batting average and a 1.056
slugging percentage. She recorded hits in each of Norwich's
six games. Last Monday, Balasco went 5-for-7 with three RBIs and
two runs scored in NU's road sweep of Mount Ida College. On
Friday, she was 2-for-3 at the plate as the Cadets swept Pine Manor
College. The Barrington, R.I., native exploded offensively on
Saturday, going 5-for-8 with six RBIs and five runs scored as
Norwich swept Albertus Magnus College.
For the season, Balasco leads the team with a .388 batting
average. She also ranks among the team leaders in slugging
percentage (.550), RBIs (16), runs scored (22) and doubles (eight).
Junior Mackenzie Pratt, who pitched Norwich two three of the six
wins during the week, was named to the GNAC's Weekly Honor
Roll.
Norwich (8-18) returns to action later today (April 13), when
the Cadets travel to Lyndonville, Vt., to battle in-state rival
Lyndon State College in a non-league doubleheader beginning at 3:30
p.m.
