BOSTON – The Norwich University softball
team was swept by Simmons College in a Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Sharks took
a 4-0 decision in the first game, before earning an 11-3 victory in
the nightcap.
Norwich (1-13, 0-6 GNAC) managed just five hits in the opener
with Lindsay Carey and Jessalyn Sweeney each going 2-for-3 to lead
the way. Kelsey Buker (0-5) yielded four runs on 11 hits over 6.0
innings of work in the losing effort for the Cadets.
The Cadets strung together five hits in the second game, which
Simmons won in six innings. Marley Balasco went 2-for-3 at the
plate to lead the Norwich offense. Hallie Grennon gave up 11 runs
on 14 hits over 5.2 innings in the loss.
Norwich continues its GNAC schedule on Wednesday, March 31, when
the Cadets travel back down to Boston to battle Emmanuel College in
a doubleheader. First pitch for the opening game is slated for 6
p.m.
