CLINTON, N.Y. – Scott Schroeder and
Chris Duszynski each chipped in a pair of goals to
help the Norwich men's hockey team get back in the win column
with a 7-1 win over Hamilton College on Saturday at Sage Rink in
ECAC East/NESCAC Interlock action.
Freshman forward Travis Janke led all players
with a game-high four assists for the Cadets (4-1-1, 3-0-1 ECAC
East) to round out the NU offensive leaders.
Schroeder, a sophomore forward from Drake, Sask. Continued his
hot start to the 2010-2011 season by netting the Cadets'
first goal 6:48 into the first period to put Norwich out front 1-0.
Duszynski scored his first goal of the game and third of the season
just 33 seconds later to give NU a 2-0 lead.
Senior captain Chad Anderson added a third goal
for Norwich at the 12:02 mark of the period to chase Hamilton
starting goaltender Scott Hefferman after he made
just six saves on nine shots.
Hefferman's replacement, Cam Gibbar held
the Cadets scoreless for nearly 25 minutes until sophomore forward
Kyle Thomas lit the lamp again for NU on a power
play off assists from Janke and Frank Gatien.
That opened the flood gates as Norwich put home two more quick
goals before the end of the period with Duszynski and
Pier-Olivier Cotnoir adding the tallies.
Cotnoir's goal at the 19:36 mark was the first of the
season for the sophomore forward that scored the game-winning goal
in last year's national championship game.
Schroeder closed the book on the Norwich scoring at the 14:23
mark of the third period with assists from Greg
Eskedjian and Janke.
Hamilton's Andrew White broke up
sophomore goaltender Alex Dubois' bid for
his third shutout of the season with just under three minutes
remaining in the game.
Dubois was whistled for a penalty after the goal, allowing
freshman Sean Gerich his first collegiate game
action for the final 2:52. The freshman from Chicago, Ill. turned
away both shots he faced.
Dubois picked up his fourth win of the season while turning
aside 21 shots for Norwich. Hefferman was saddled with the
loss.
Norwich was 1-for-2 with the man-advantage, while Hamilton was
1-for-4. The Cadets outshot the Continentals 34-22.
Norwich returns to action on Tuesday when the Cadets travel up
I-89 to St. Michaels for an Interlock tilt with their in-state
rival to the north.
