AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst's Brandon
Hew scored a goal 5:16 into the third period to tie the
game up at two and then neither side was able to pull ahead as
Norwich and the Lord Jeffs skated to a 2-2 tie on Friday night at
Orr Rink.
Norwich (3-1-1, 2-0-1 ECAC East) needed just 1:59 to take a 1-0
lead when freshman Travis Janke continued his hot
start to the season by tallying his fourth of the year off an
assist from Tory Allan.
Amherst tied the game exactly three minutes later when
Luke Arnold beat Alex Dubois off
assists from Eddie Effinger and Gavin
Carson.
The Cadets regained the lead with 3:46 to go in the period when
Kyle Thomas put home his second of the season past
Amherst goalie Cole Anderson on the power play,
with assists from Scott Schroeder and Pier-Olivier Cotnoir.
Neither side was able to muster the game-winning goal in the
five-minute overtime session with each team registering two shots
on goal.
Dubois made 31 stops in net for Norwich and is now 3-1-1 on the
season. Anderson made 29 saves for Amherst and is 2-2-1 on the
year.
Norwich took five penalties for 10 minutes, while Amherst had
three penalties for six minutes. Each team converted once on the
power play as Norwich was 1-for-3 and Amherst was 1-for-5.
Norwich will look to break its two-game winless streak on
Saturday afternoon when the Cadets travel to Clinton, N.Y. and Sage
Rink to take on Hamilton at 3 p.m. in ECAC East/NESCAC Interlock
action.
