Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – The championship round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference was a scoreless event at Lasell's Taylor Field for 87 minutes, when the Lasers penetrated the Cadets defense to score the game-winning goal with just two minutes left in regulation time. For the first time in program history, Lasell advances to the NCAA Tournament, as the Norwich Cadets wrap up their season with an over 13-8 record.
Cadets' senior goalkeeper Nicki Hunsicker was a key player throughout the tournament, as she came up with 11 saves in the final game of the season. Sophomore Brittany Casey worked hard to put the Cadets on the board, rattling off five shots throughout the contest on Lasers' goalkeeper, Elizabeth Stickley.
Norwich took control of the game from the first whistle, earning three shots off set-piece plays in the opening minutes. The Lasers won back the momentum midway through the half, as the Cadets were outshot 25-9 by the end of the contest.
The 2010 All-Tournament Team was announced upon completion of the conference's final event. Those selected from Norwich include Hunsicker, Casey and sophomore Lisa Esparza.
Norwich still has a shot at earning an ECAC Tournament bid; news to be announced on Monday as the bracket and schedule are released.
