Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich Cadets
(7-5, 5-3 GNAC) hosted Pine Manor College on Saturday, celebrating
their Homecoming Weekend with an 8-0 shutout over the Gators on
Howard Field.
In the first half, play went back and forth against the Cadets
and a winless Gators squad. As of the 40th minute of
play, the momentum of the game became one sided in favor of the
home team's efforts.
Senior Sarah Reuschel served sophomore Brittany Casey her
15th and 16th goals of the season, while also
earning a point on the board, herself. Between the two Casey goals,
sophomore Lisa Esparza earned a penalty kick with three minutes
remaining in the first half, placing a successful ball to the
bottom left of the net.
Freshman Julia Lovely had a standout appearance, earning her
first collegiate points with incredible fashion as she collected
two goals and an assist. Freshman Jackie Derocher also netted her
first collegiate goal, while junior Emily Chandler was assisted by
Kathleen Manning on her first goal of the season.
Senior Nicki Hunsicker returned to the net and brought her
record in goal up to 2-0, as she set aside the one shot on goal she
saw throughout her 90 minutes of playing time. Pine Manor's
sophomore goalkeeper Colleen Tencza went 50-50 in the net, setting
aside eight of the 16 shots she faced.
The Cadets take to the road on Monday, playing in a doubleheader
with the men at Rivier College. The women kick off at 7:30 p.m.,
following the men's 5:30 p.m. conference action.
